Hi there.
We survived the first day. Hurrah!! I decided I needed to start my day at 6am. My alarm went off and I was up by 6:10ish, so not bad.
Took out some frozen muffins, I had made for camping but saved a few for this particular day. And started a cup of tea for myself. Opened my bible and decided Psalm 1:1 was a good place to start reading on this first day of school. By 6:50ish the littles were starting their morning rising. I think mainly because they were excited. All but Skylar who was up too, and obviously had no clue what was going to happen that day. Like any day, right? She is such a goober first thing in the morning (all the time!). "Momma, momma" over and over again, as in. "Please feed me, come on Momma, where's my food?" OH dear...
So we started with a morning routine. And love that the big kids are old enough to brush their teeth, change their clothes, and make their beds without me. Yay! I honestly thought that day would never come.
I started by letting the big kids see their school supplies and books. That's always fun. And then when Skylar went down for her am nap I got pics of Ashlyn out front. She was the only willing participant, if you know what I mean. And then I gave them their Math-U-See manipulatives to play with for a bit, to get them used to them.
We then did a little school. I got out Ashlyn's Math book and let her do a few pages. I am so loving Math-U-See. What a fun curriculum. And the kids love the manipulative blocks as I said above.
We made sure to have recess, or playtime, and mom even participated in that. Mom even slid down the slide to dry it off. (unintentionally of course, lol!) They like it when I play with them outdoors, and honestly I don't do it enough. We also had a little snack.
Then we did a little writing, or practice writing of the alphabet. Ashlyn did her first journal entry. And Carter wrote his name for the first time without help, you can sorta see it. He writes so very light though.
We then called it a day. They had enough, and I wasn't going to pester them in doing too much the first day.
I'd say it was successful and I accomplished everything I wanted with them. And they even behaved so well. Which was a little strange. My fellow moms, I promise that was a rare occasion. Lol!
Here is a little glimpse into our home today...
(Seriously you have to try this bar!!)
(sans makeup ya'll!)
Those last two photos were from tonight when the kids were outside and Sky was helping me clean. She walked into the room with the headphones on. And then she put the cord into her neck as if plugging it in there. Oh how this girl fills my day with fun!!
Isn't that the truth for all of us!?
Thanks for following along.
Melissa
